Standing with Spine Tingling by Brian Sutton - April 17, 2016
Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part is the seventh principle, which we hopefully keep in mind more than just on Earth Day. It's the only principle with a metaphor - the web. The other principles are all abstract, incredibly important humanistic words, but hard to draw in Pictionary; words like acceptance, dignity, encouragement, justice, peace, truth, meaning, world community, democratic process. And then there's this web. This image. We can all probably draw a passable web, but deeper than that, what is this metaphor "interdependent web of all existence." It points to a connection even greater than world community, a reminder to consider in our decisions to include more than the human,... - that all things are connected, and we must take care of our home, the earth, and how we treat its waters, lands, air, and its creatures, whether a whole species or a single bug or blade of grass.
