What’s Happening at First Parish
June 22, 2012
First Parish Social Justice Award
We’re pleased to announce that the 2012 First Parish Social Justice award was earned by our own Jonah Lewis. To earn the award, Jonah submitted grade transcripts as well as a fine essay detailing his experience with and interest in social justice issues. This fall, he will be an entering freshman at George Washington University; we wish him well and will be watching his progress with interest.
Our Minister
Our interim minister, Steve Cook, will be on study leave and vacation during July and much of August and therefore free of normal ministerial duties. However, in the event of a pastoral emergency, he can be reached at home or by leaving a message on the office phone for him, 781 545-3324.
Water In-gathering
Don’t forget to collect some water from your summer travels for our water ceremony that will take place when we resume regular worship services on Sunday, September 9.
Heritage Days Happening
Once again we will be opening the church during the hours the Lawson Tower is open on Heritage Days, August 4 and 5. Please help if you can.
For each day we need:
COOKIES! 2 people for each shift to sell lemonade and cookies 1 person for each shift to be available to show visitors around and tell them about our church. Shifts are 12:30 to 2:30 and 2:30 to 4:30.
Please contact Claire Sherman clairesherman@comcast.net or Joanne Fraser Joanne@lincolnridge.com for more information or to volunteer to help with cookies (about 2 dozen) or to be at the church. Or just come by during Heritage Days to visit and show the public what a lively and welcoming place we are!
August Services
Your Religious Services Committee is planning two lay-led Vespers Services in August. The first is Sunday, August 19th. The second is Sunday, August 26th. We'll meet at the church at 7 PM, finish by 8 PM. A 45-minute mix of music, candlelight, readings, a silent time, followed by a quick glass of lemonade and hello's. Please mark your calendars, and plan to bring the family.
If you wish to participate and/or have suggestions, contact Anne Weaver, RSC chair.
